Diane Cockerill, a Photographer Chronicling the City of Los Angeles

'As a fourth-generation Angeleno, I know Los Angeles well and yet there are always new pockets, new street scenes or new characters to discover and photograph. I prefer unusual, odd, off-center subject matter and wait for unexpected moments, unique light and composition.

My city offers a wealth of opportunities and the challenge is always present to find new and unique images.'

My preferred method is shooting with a digital camera. I use limited Photoshop, as I prefer naturally photographed images, except when I use collage in an expression of my work. I tend to shoot early in the morning and last in the afternoon for the best chosen light, but since my camera is always with me, I can get some beautiful shots during the day too.

Diane Cockerill is from a fourth generation Los Angeles family. She studied fine art at the University of California Los Angeles. She has shown her work at several local and national galleries across the US, as well as galleries in Japan, France, Hungary and Korea.

At the age of ten, Diane received her first point-and-shoot camera. She later transitioned to a 35mm camera, when she realized she had a serious interest in photography.

A thirty-year career in advertising provided the opportunity to work along side many other photographers, as well as providing her a plethora of image sourcing for print materials. New technology introduced a digital expansion of photography and with it came the immediacy that well suited her shooting style.

Diane continues, fully immersed, in photographing her native city of Los Angeles.
